On the first day of the New Year, on which we celebrate the Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, we also celebrate the World Day of Peace.
Mary shows us how to live year-round – with hearts open to the Lord and with the peace of Christ. We are called to place our trust in Him, to enter compassionately into the suffering of others, and to love one another as Christ loves us.
Peace begins in the womb and continues every day of our lives through thoughts, prayer and living.
One way to follow Our Lady’s example is to join
9 Days for Life, a digital novena of prayer.
The U.S. Catholic bishops invite you to join thousands of Catholics nationwide from Thursday, January 18 – Friday, January 26.
Why You Want to Participate: Every life is sacred, from the moment of conception to the 92-year-old preparing for natural death. This includes the innocent and those convicted of capital crimes; homeless families doing all they can to survive, and the addict who has given up. Without this fundamental guiding principle, people are reduced to utilitarian entities.
