Beginning this month, the Catholic Sentinel will publish a new column called "Life:" Co-written by the Matt Cato, Director of the Office of Life, Justice & Peace, and Fr. Matt Libra, Associate Director for Respect Life Activities, it exists to be a response to loving life rather than destroying life.
Our vision is to bring our diversity into the unity of One Body. To accomplish this, our goal is to create a common understanding of what Catholics mean by "life" by consistently using core language found in three seminal papal encyclicals: Laudato Si' (Pope Francis), Pacem in Terris (Saint John XXIII), and Evangelium Vitae (Saint John Paul II).
A common language needs identifiable icons. We have chosen three icons who are incontrovertible examples of justice and mercy: Servant of God Dorothy Day, Saint Peter Claver (September 9), and Saint Teresa of Calcutta (September 5).
You can find our first column "Life: Race Relations" in the current issue of the Catholic Sentinel.
